Jalen Green and Kai Sotto have been in contact with one another while both of them are in the US.
Green shared the interesting development for Filipino fans in an online interview. "We (haven't) come across each other, but Kai told me he was coming to the States. He checked up on me and I told him I was okay," he told ABS-CBN Sports analyst Migs Bustos on Off the Record.
The 6-foot-6 swingman had just announced that he is taking his talents to the NBA G-League. He is ESPN's no. 1 prospect out of high school and would be one of the first young talents to blaze that new trail. "I think this will benefit my long-term growth and improvement. It will give me the best opportunity to develop as an NBA player," he said to Bustos.
Green has a full-blooded Filipino as great grandfather and traces his roots to Ilocos Sur.
With that, he actually saw action in the Philippines as he played for FilAm Sports-USA in the 2018 and 2019 National Basketball Training Centre League National Finals and All-Star Games.
There, Green and Sotto got to know one another - quite a bit, actually.
Now, both of them are in the US and both of them are hard at work at turning their NBA dream into reality.
Just like the 18-year-old Filipino-American, the G-League has also opened up as an avenue for the 7-foot-2, 17-year-old full-blooded Filipino.
According to ESPN's Jonathan Givony and Adrian Wojnarowski, Sotto is among other promising prospects who "could be candidates to join Green."
