ABSCBN | Yup, Jalen Green just bested a pro dunker in NBTC Slam Dunk Contest

As if there was even any doubt about his talent, Jalen Green put all of those to rest on Friday at the MOA Arena.

Not even an hour after taking flight in the 2018 NBTC Division 1 All-Star Game, the Filipino-blooded top sophomore in the US put on a show in the Slam Dunk Contest.

And with four jaw-dropping slam jams, he left no doubt in winning the showcase.

In doing so, he bested a field that included FilAm Sports teammate Elijah Jackson, College of St. Benilde’s Justin Gutang, University of the Philippines’ David Murrell, and professional dunker David Carlos.

For Green, toppling Carlos, who won last year’s event, was the cherry on top of the cake that was his first visit to the Philippines. “That’s the biggest part right there, beating a professional dunker,” he said.

More personally, though, the 6-foot-6, 16-year-old said he was just glad to have entertained his kababayans. “I came to a different country to put on a show. I just love the energy here,” he said.

He then continued, “I’m really excited to win this.”
